The New Year brings with it new trends and inspiration for freshening up our homes. Some of our forecasted trends are brand new and others have been seen in recent years but will hit full tilt exposure in 2017. Check out the Top 5 Remodeling Trends to Watch for in 2017 and consider utilizing one or more of these trends in your next remodel or renovation!
Tuxedo Kitchen Cabinets
Tuxedo or “two-toned” kitchens have cabinets that are light on top and dark on the bottom. A literal interpretation of the tuxedo kitchen would have white upper cabinets and black lower cabinets and/or island. Homeowners are having fun with color and are putting their own personal spin on this trend by incorporating lower cabinets of a different complementary color such as grey, light blue, navy blue, or a soothing sage green.
Ultra-functional features in cabinetry and hidden appliances are specially catered to meet the needs of each individual homeowner. Modern cabinet designs have everything figured out with a special place for plates, glassware, flatware, spices, wine bottles, appliances, and more! Kitchen items are properly grouped together and organized within their appropriate cabinet or drawer for ease of use and visibility. During 2017 you will be given the tools to elevate your organizational skills in the kitchen.
Integrated Kitchen-Living Spaces
According to HGTV, Integrated Kitchen-Living Spaces, or “open-concept” layouts are, “Perfect for casual family living or easy entertaining, these bright, airy, stylish spaces are multifunctional and fun.” The modern lifestyle of homeowners in 2017 calls for home layouts that suit their needs. Today, people live more openly in their homes, flowing seamlessly from one space to the next and from one task to the next. This kind of lifestyle calls for integrated living spaces.
2017 interior color palettes will be described as light, welcoming, and friendly. Homeowners will be seeing a lot of neutrals and pastels with pops of bright color. Although a light and airy continuation of soft shades is the go-to color scheme for 2017, the classic black and white combo isn’t going anywhere soon. No matter what color scheme you opt for in your home, remember to add in a bright leafy touch of life with some plant power.
Black Slate Appliances
Slate appliances made their appearance during 2016 to offer homeowners an option other than stainless steel. GE debuted their Slate appliance line, which they describe as, “Rich and elegant, the stone-inspired Slate finish blends impeccably with today’s materials and colors. The dark matte appearance also naturally hides fingerprints, smudges and dirt, so it’s delightfully easy to maintain.” Ideal for homeowners who enjoy the appeal of stainless steel but desire something updated, attractive, and fingerprint-proof, slate was the go-to appliance choice of 2016. While GE Slate appliances continue to be a trendy appliance option, 2017 will pave the way for a newer darker option. According to GE, the new Black Slate is “an extension of the highly sought-after Slate finish family from GE Appliances and is available exclusively on select GE Café™ models. Designed to add distinction and durability to your home’s kitchen and living spaces, Black Slate is versatile enough to match nearly any décor, yet striking enough to command just the right amount of attention.” We can’t wait to see this line of deep charcoal appliances in kitchens of all colors and styles!
